Chandrasekhar who is a well-known Tamil film director. His mother’s name is Shoba Chandrasekhar who is a reputed playback singer and carnatic vocalist. Vijay grew up in Chennai. Vijay had a sister (Vidhya), who died when Vidhaya was two years old. And Vidhya’s death affected him very much. Vijay completed his schooling from Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Virugambakkam.

In 1996 Vijay’s made his first hit movie named Poove Unakkaga directed by Vikraman and that was his first commercial success. After doing this movie he became officially star. Vijay appeared alongside Vijayakanth in Sendhoorapandi (1993) which did well at the box-office.
